Mount Lemmon Fire District
Welcome to the Mt. Lemmon Fire District Volunteer Firefighter training program. By joining this program, you have already made the decision to help your community and the public through emergency situations. This program is designed to not only help you reach those goals, but to teach you how to reach those goals in the safest and most efficient ways possible.
The Volunteer Firefighter program is broken up into four standards. These standards start with the most basic and common assignment types, and increase to more complex and inherently stressful assignment types. As a Volunteer Firefighter, it will be up to you how far you want to advance in the program. As you get signed off on a standard, you will have to make at least one of the two annual training classes at that standard, as well as pass an annual testing on the standard. This is true of all standards with the exception of the driver standard, which will require road time as well. If you advance through all four standards, you must attend a class in each standard, and pass all four standard tests annually. If it is impossible to make a class at your current level(s), you may contact your Training Captain to request a make-up date.
Training classes will typically consist of some classroom time with most of the emphasis on actual hands-on training. Each six month training cycle will have a training class on each standard with two open dates. These dates are reserved for guest trainers, review classes or the possible weather/fire cancellation. If at any time you have a question regarding something in the Volunteer Firefighter training program, you may contact your Training Captain at the station or via station email.
Mt. Lemmon Fire District has always relied on Volunteer Firefighters. This program will help our Volunteers work in a capacity that is not only comfortable, but provides the safety and accountability necessary to keep the District performing at the highest level.
